   Socio–economic rehabilitation of the Visually Impaired  
For the last three decades the Centre for the Visually Impaired has been working towards the rehabilitation of the visually challenged.  DC is amongst a handful of institutions for the visually impaired in North India.  The Daisy book library enables the visually impaired students to read printed material in E – text using the screen reading text.  Study material for students is available on CDs.  At present the talking library has the complete syllabus for grades IX to XII as recorded audio cassettes.  

The basic computer training program equips the visually impaired trainees to operate computers with ease.  A screen reading software is used for this purpose.  A monthly Braille magazine called Deepak is produced at the Centre and this along with a newsletter is posted out to 1500 contacts living in different parts of the country.

 Report July 2010 – January 2011  

Visits: - In this period 172 V.H.P visited the Centre for their different kind of needs. Some of them have come to take the typing certificate, which was given by Jan Shiksha Sansthan, some of them have come to enquire about typing and computer course, weather they will get the admission in these classes according them or not, few have come to take help in filling the form for the Jobs and others for personal problem, bible books and to get the audio book CD etc.  

 

 Computer Training: - The new batch has been started for the training from July 2010.  Seven   VH completed the six month course successfully. 5 Visually impaired children completed short term course. We have been registered 6 new students for the new batch. 5 students, Durgesh, Neeraj Pal, Sanjay, Sanjeev and Shiv Kumar, Students from Seva Kutir come in the after noon. Tanuja Karan a collage   student from Sant Nagar comes in the first half. Five students of previous Batch still have to complete their course in the Internet.                           Our six months course has just finished in January. Last year it started late due to shifting of the office. Durgesh, Sanjeev, Sanjay, Neeraj and Shiv Kumar are the five students to complete this course. Their performance was excellent through out the course.  Shiv Kumar and Durgesh are also very happy and pleased with the training they got here. Our four months course has just started. At present five students have joined and other will join next week. We are happy that the students are satisfied with the service we are giving.  Typing Course: - Sangeeta, Nutan, Raju kumar and Rajeev are new Children those who join the Hindi typing classes. Sanjay Paswan and Santosh Kumar have completed typing in the month of July with grade of (A & A+). Chhote Lal has Completed English typing with grade B.  Mukesh, and Santosh, are attending the typing classes regularly.  Suresh Tirky, Lata, Lalita, Sanjay, Veer Singh, Sanjay and Vishram joined recently for the Typing classes both  Hindi and English. Veer Singh is coming from Mangolpuri. Few students of typing completed the typing training. Santosh Kumar Mishra got the job in private sector and Rajeev went for teachers training. New batch of typing training started from the month of January.    Get-Together:- In the month of July 2010 we conducted a get together at poonth kala Rohini sector-20.  19 visually impaired people attended the program. This was the mix group of college going boys and those who completed their education and trying for the jobs.  

In the month of September 2010 we conducted a Get-Together program at Shahadra

 New Om Sai vocational training centre on 24th.   All the participants were new in

 

 this program. We were all together 13 people, out of 13 people 3 were sighted. After the program we gave some Braille books to the participants and discussed in other matters also. We also invited them to visit the centre; they all were exited to see the office.  In the month of November 2010 we conducted a Get-Together Program at Blind School, Telewara, Shahadra, 33 People participated in this program out of  which One VH lady and three staff members.  In the month of December 2010 we conducted a Get-Together Program at Blind School, Amar Colony, Lajpat Nagar, 160 Students and Teachers participated in this program out of  which One VH lady.  There was good response. School authorities requested us to conduct same kind of program at the time of Good Friday.

 Digital library: - We prepared 51CDs for different classes and current affairs for those who are preparing for jobs and entrance test etc. We have copied the 26 cassettes of the class 10th (Course books) and also copied 4 CD’s of General

 

 Knowledge for those who are preparing for Interviews for different jobs.   

 Letters: - In this period we received 34 Braille letters form our contacts, many people contacted us by phone calls, some people shared their problems. Some have requested for Braille books, few just share their views.   Braille portion - 325 Braille portion dispatched and distributed to visually impaired peoples those who requested and shown their interest to read.   We transcribe two text books into Braille in the month of July. These were approximately 37 and 40 pages in Braille. Braille learning:  Akash and Sangeeta are learning the Braille, since July 2010. These children are learning English and Hindi also. Both the children are drop outs from school Akash is learning English Braille he comes from Sultanpuri , and  Sangeeta  is learning Hindi Braille, she comes from Vasant kunj.                            

Retreat: In the month of December we conducted a Retreat at Our centre. 85 people all over Delhi participated in this program out of which 21 V.H Girls and 4 sighted ladies. 

 Discipleship Centre Residential Camp for the Visually Impaired At Dehradun (21st to 24th June 2010) 

The visually impaired have attended a camp at Dehradun during 21st to 24th June

 

 2010.The venue for this year’s camp was the NIOS (North India Outreach Society)

 

 retreat centre in Dehradun. All the participants were new to the camp.  Mr. Robin Amos, Director of the NIOS centre Dehradun the main resource person for the camp. Counseling on a person-to-person basis was an integration part of the camp.  The resource persons and listened to personal problems.    Cricket played every evening added a recreational component to the camp schedule, enabling the students to heartily participate in the excitement of a modified. They also received folding walking sticks.  26 people participated in the camp.  The camp was a very useful tool in physically for the impaired participants. The impact of camp was appreciated by all.
