Finding Resilience Amidst the Deluge

Life has been an endless struggle for Kamala Parida, a widow from Muturigarh, one of the flood-affected target villages in Orissa. Her husband, Ramesh, was an active member of the local Disaster Management Committee before he tragically passed away from a stomach ulcer three months ago. To pay for his medical treatment, Kamala had mortgaged their home and household utensils, leaving her financially drained. Before she could recover from the trauma of her loss, devastating floods struck Orissa, washing away the few belongings she had left and leaving her completely overwhelmed.

Recognizing her desperate situation, the community stepped forward to support her. The local Village Disaster Management Committee (VDMC) provided immediate aid from the village emergency fund. Furthermore, upon the request and recommendation of the VDMC, the Discipleship Centre (DC) stepped in to distribute critical aid.

Relief Items Provided by Discipleship Centre (DC):

• Two Full Relief Kits: Comprehensive emergency supply packages containing essential food items, sanitary supplies, and key household survival goods tailored for families recovering from flood disasters.

Receiving these relief materials brought immense comfort and satisfaction to Kamala, who expressed deep gratitude to both DC and her local village committee. This swift response highlights the power of community capacity building, demonstrating how a sensitized and empowered CBO can act with compassion and efficiency during times of crisis.
