Disability Job Mela in Delhi | Inclusive Employment
For many persons with disabilities in India, access to stable employment remains a major challenge. Despite having the skills, qualifications, and motivation to work, individuals with disabilities often face exclusion due to limited inclusive hiring platforms, social stigma, and a lack of employer awareness.
At Discipleship Centre (DC), inclusive employment is central to long-term empowerment. Through focused initiatives that promote jobs for persons with disabilities, DC works to bridge the gap between potential and opportunity—ensuring that people are valued for their abilities and supported to lead independent, dignified lives. The Disability Job Mela in Delhi, organised in partnership with the American India Foundation (AIF) and VRC Karkardooma, was one such effort to turn intent into action.
Why Disability Job Melas Matter
Unemployment among persons with disabilities continues to be significantly higher than the national average. While many employers are willing to build diverse workplaces, they often lack structured, accessible channels to connect with job-ready candidates with disabilities. At the same time, candidates frequently have limited exposure to inclusive employers and real-world recruitment processes.
Disability-focused job melas play a crucial role in addressing this gap. They create safe, accessible spaces where inclusive employers and capable candidates can engage directly. These platforms allow candidates to showcase their skills and confidence, while employers gain first-hand experience of inclusive hiring in practice. More importantly, job melas help shift perceptions—from disability as a limitation to disability as untapped potential.

Turning Opportunity into Impact
The Disability Job Mela brought together persons with disabilities seeking employment and organisations committed to inclusive hiring across sectors such as retail, telecom, customer support, facilities management, and insurance. Candidates were interviewed, guided, and assessed based on their skills, aptitude, and readiness for the workplace.
For many participants, this was more than a recruitment event—it was their first opportunity to be considered seriously for a job. The outcome was deeply encouraging: 89 candidates received job selections, opening doors to financial independence, stability, and renewed self-confidence.
Beyond placements, the job mela offered something equally powerful—hope. Hope for young adults entering the workforce, for families seeking security, and for individuals who had long been excluded from mainstream employment.
Creating Long-Term Pathways to Inclusion
While job melas create immediate employment opportunities, their true impact lies in the long-term pathways they help build. Events like these strengthen partnerships with inclusive employers, raise awareness about disability inclusion in the workplace, and create momentum for sustained change.
Discipleship Centre continues to work beyond one-day events through skill development, job readiness training, employer sensitisation, and post-placement support. This holistic approach ensures that persons with disabilities are not only placed in jobs, but are supported to grow, adapt, and thrive in their careers.
