Ray of Hope Amidst the Loss
At 62, Joshdha Parida, a widow from a socially marginalized community in Orissa, faced a life of hardship. Living alone in a small hut without land or family support—her two poor sons unable to assist—she relied on daily labor to survive. When devastating floods struck her DMP village, washing away her few possessions and engulfing the entire community, her hope for survival quickly began to fade.
Upon receiving her details from the Village Disaster Management Committee (VDMC), team members from Discipleship Centre (DC) met her directly to offer support and reassurance. DC provided her with essential relief items to restore her dignity and survival, including:
- Food Grains: Essential food supplies to meet her immediate nutrition and daily hunger needs.
- Hygiene Kit: Personal care and sanitary items to help maintain cleanliness and hygiene after the flood.
Relieved and deeply grateful, Joshdha shared, “I don’t have land. I am very poor and do not have any other support. Whatever I had, it’s all gone. Thanks to you. You helped us at the right time.” Though words fell short to express her gratitude, the quiet relief and satisfaction on her face spoke louder than anything.
