Empowering Samita: From Surviving to Thriving
“Disability inclusion isn’t about seeing a limitation; it’s about recognizing an unspoken potential.”
Meet Samita. At 26 years old, living in Madanpur Khadar, she has already faced a lifetime of adversity that would break most spirits. Yet, she stands—with the help of her walker—ready to take control of her own destiny.
A Journey of Unfair Hurdles
As a child, Samita and her younger sister missed out on the crucial polio vaccine. Without this protection, both sisters developed severe physical disabilities, leaving their legs weakened. Walking independently became an impossibility.
Instead of receiving the extra support she needed, Samita faced neglect at home. Hoping to find security, she completed her 10th-grade education and was married. Unfortunately, her nightmare only intensified. Her ex-husband struggled with severe alcoholism, subjecting her to daily abuse, while her in-laws made constant, draining financial demands.
Showing incredible bravery, Samita chose to survive. She walked away from the abusive marriage, secured a divorce, and returned home.
The Challenge Today
Today, Samita are back in the family home, but are viewed as financial burdens. Samita refuses to accept this narrative. She does not want pity; she wants a livelihood. She possesses a 10th-grade education, a sharp mind, and an unbreakable will to earn her own living and live independently.
How You Can Help: See Her Ability
We are opening our hearts and hands to show Samita that she is not alone. We are looking for partners, employers, and kind individuals to help her build a sustainable livelihood. Given her mobility challenges, Samita is best suited for desk-based or sit-down work.
