From a Kalyanpuri Slum to America: How DC Transformed Neelam’s World

When little Neelam first walked through the doors of the Discipleship Centre (DC) Project in Kalyanpuri as a 4th-grader, she was a bundle of doubts. The atmosphere at the project felt entirely different from the harsh realities of her daily life. However, any anxiety she had quickly melted away under the warm, joyful welcome of the DC staff.

Igniting the Spark of Potential

The dedicated teachers at Kalyanpuri didn’t just teach Neelam her school subjects; they nurtured her confidence. When the time came for Neelam to choose her academic stream in high school, the staff looked at her strong academic performance and saw a brilliant future. They counselled her, mapping out the vast horizons that a background in science could offer.

“Science opens broader pathways,” they advised her. “It can take you to the very top.”
Motivated by their unwavering faith in her, Neelam took the leap and chose Science.

Rising Against the Odds

That pivotal choice was just the beginning. After she completed her 12th standard, the DC team continued to anchor her ambitions. With their constant encouragement, Neelam cracked the competitive exams and secured admission into the prestigious BSc Nursing program at Maulana Azad Medical College. It was a monumental, proud moment that left her parents and the DC staff filled with wonder and joy.

Crossing Borders and Building Dreams

After graduating, Neelam worked dedicatedly for one and a half years in Chandigarh, gaining vital clinical experience. Her hard work soon caught international attention, leading to a life-changing opportunity in the United States. Shaking off any lingering doubts, she cleared all the rigorous formalities and relocated to America.

Today, Neelam is living a beautifully fulfilled life in the US. She is a proud, happy mother to three wonderful children—an 11-year-old son, a 10-year-old daughter, and a 9-year-old daughter.

The Beautiful Ripple Effect

The true magic of Neelam’s transformation is how it reshaped her entire family. Armed with financial stability and a vision for success, Neelam took on the responsibility of financing her siblings’ education. Because of her support:

• Her sister is now a successful Architectural Engineer.
• Her second sister is thriving in a corporate role at HDFC Bank.
• Her brother is well-settled, working in a reputable company.

Every single one of these siblings was a student at the Discipleship Centre.
